Do I need a physician prescription to start physical therapy?

NO! Under California Direct Access AB 1000, you can initiate physical therapy without a physician's diagnosis or prescription. A physical therapist may evaluate and treat you without seeing a physician first, subject to specific limits.

Do I need a physician prescription to start physical therapy?

FIT PARSONS does not accept medical insurance. Upon your request, we can provide you a “superbill” which you can submit to your health plan and/or FSA/HSA account to apply costs toward your deductible and out-of-pocket expenses. Most health plans require you to meet a deductible, meaning you pay out-of-pocket before your insurance coverage begins, regardless of whether you use an in-network or out-of-network provider.

Some insurance plans require prior authorization throughout your care, and most health plans do not cover your return to sport or anything beyond basic daily activities. Additionally, your insurance does not cover skilled treatment beyond your allowable visit limit, even if it is medically necessary. This is where FIT PARSONS comes in: to help you initiate treatment without waiting for authorization and bridge the gap in care that insurance does not allow or cover. Either way, FIT PARSONS is here to help you move your best in a timely and efficient manner.
